He was the patriarch of a very large family with strong ties in Russell, Adair, Lincoln, and Pickett County, TN and many other areas. He leaves 44 direct living descendants. He was a member of Parksridge Church of God and he worked as a Coal Miner in eastern Kentucky

John Roe Stephens, 79, of Russell Springs, KY, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013, at 55 Macky Spoon Road, Chance Community of Adair County, Columbia, KY, at the home of his son.

Graveside Services at Parksridge Cemetery at 2pmCT, on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Visitation will be after 1pmCT, on Sunday at the Parksridge Ridge Church of God until time for the service.

John was born in Russell Springs, Kentucky on February 10, 1934, a son of the late Farlee (Hopper) and George Stephens. He died Friday, August 30, 2013, in The Chance Community of Adair County, KY, at the age of 79 years, 6 months, and 20 days.

He is survived the following: •Four daughters: Joyce Owens, of Pall Mall, TN; Carolyn Adams, of Russell Springs, KY: Patricia Stephens, of Russell Springs, KY; Deborah Padgett, of Russell Springs, KY

•Six sons: John Wayne Stephens, of Russell Springs, KY; Ronnie Lee Stephens, of Russell Springs, KY; Donnie Ray Stephens, of Russell Springs, KY; Robert Eugene Stephens, of Columbia, KY; Alan Logan Stephens, of Columbia, KY; and Wayne Stephens, Macon, Georgia.

•Seventeen grandchildren

•Fifteen great-grandchildren

•Two great-great grandchildren

•Three sisters: Clotine Estes, of Stanford, KY; Clydene (Last name not available) , of Russell Springs; Kathleen Holt, of Stanford, KY
