Agnes was born on August 30, 1930 and was a beloved daughter of Greene and Vera Thompson of Lenoir. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Wanda Thompson Land and Bobbie Jean Thompson Reese. She was married to John Cecil Scroggs for 49 years until his death in 2000.
She is survived by her children John and Judy Scroggs of Asheville, NC, Susan Scroggs of Morganton, NC and Nancy Scroggs of Lenoir and her granddaughter Cameron Elizabeth Scroggs, also of Lenoir. She is survived by a sister, Marjorie Thompson Conley as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Agnes served as the Minister's Secretary of First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir for 33 years and continued as Secretary Emeritus after her retirement.
Hers was a life of candor and wit, wisdom and faith. She lived a life of distinction that enriched this community in untold ways throughout her years.
A private interment is scheduled for Saturday, September 7, followed by a memorial service at 2 pm at First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir. The family will receive friends and family following the service in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the organ restoration fund of First Presbyterian Church, 1002 Kirkwood Street, N.W., Lenoir, N.C. 28645 or Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, N.W., Lenoir, N.C. 28645.
