HOPEDALE, Ohio Kathleen Birney, 89, of Main Street, Hopedale, died Sunday morning, Dec. 17, 2006, in Trinity West after a long illness.

She was born in Hopedale on Sept. 17, 1917, the daughter of the late Floyd and Edna Mattern Birney. Kathleen was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Rev. Kenneth Birney and a nephew, Lawrence Birney.

Kathleen was an active lifelong member of the Hopedale United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hopedale United Methodist Church in her name. She retired from the Hopedale 1st National Bank after many, many years as a teller.

She is survived by two nieces, Kay Birney, whom she made her home with the last several years and Sue Wheeler and husband Steve of North Canton, Ohio; and two nephews, Dr. Paul Birney and wife Judy of Dover, Tenn., and Charles Birney of Clarksville, Tenn.

Friends may call at the Blackburn Funeral Home, 324 High St., Hopedale on Tuesday, Dec. 19, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Hopedale United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Westling officiating. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery.
