He was born March 13, 1935, in Mattoon, the son of the late Ralph and Polly (Rew) Baker. Stephen was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a professional truck driver and was employed by Valley Express, Foreway and Foreway Express, retiring in 1985. He was also a bus driver for the Wausau and Antigo school districts for many years.
He loved watching the Green Bay Packers and being :Grandpa Yogi" to his grandchildren. Stephen had a special place in his heart for pets. Not only his own pets but everyone's pets and they all loved him, too.
Survivors include his children, Stephen Andrew Baker Jr., Reedsburg, WI; Lynnette (Dale) Koeller, Wausau, WI; Kirk Daniel Baker Sr., Mattoon, WI and Patrick Eugene Baker, Minocqua, WI; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and siblings, Cora Hilbrand and Eunice Ludke, both of Green Bay, WI and Leonard (Kathryn) Baker, Mattoon, WI.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, 2011, at the Church of the Nazarene, Mattoon. The Rev. Mark Quinn will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, town of Hutchins, Shawano County, with military rites conducted by the Mattoon American Legion. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service Sunday at the church.
