Beatrice Hooper Tolbert

Beatrice was born on May 22, 1943 to Napoleon Hooper Sr. and Maggie Bell Hooper in Grenada, MS. She was the fourth of nine children, five daughters and four sons. God, in His infinite wisdom called Beatrice home on August 30, 2013, in Joliet, IL. Beatrice joins in death her parents, Napoleon and Maggie Hooper, sister, Maggie Lean Cook, and two brothers, Douglas and Richard Hooper.

Beatrice confessed to Christ at the age of eight and was baptized at 1st New Hope M. B. in Grenada, MS by the late Rev. Brown and was raised to be very active in the Church. After she and her family relocated to Joliet, IL, she became a member of St. Paul Baptist Church and later united with Mt. Zion Baptist, where she continued serving until her death. At Mt. Zion, Beatrice served as Secretary of the Mission Ministry and Dorcas Circle, Administrative Assistant of the Sunday School Ministry, assisted with facilitating numerous workshops and Women's Day Programs and was an active Bible Study member. In addition, she served as Chairperson of the Lebanon District Women's Auxiliary Care Committee.

Beatrice was united in Holy matrimony to J.C. Tolbert on December 31, 1962. Their marriage would last for 51 years until her death. Their son Terrence LeMoyne Sr. was born in Evereux, France and daughter Tiffani Lynette was born in Chicago, IL. J.C. was a member of the US Air Force and during the first twenty years of their marriage, they resided in several cities in the U.S. and also Evereux, France. The couple was also blessed with two grandchildren, Tamara Lynette and Terrence LeMoyne II. Their blended family includes step-son Carl Starks, his daughters, Domonique and Celeste and their children, Montel Jones II, David Ewing II and Carter.

Beatrice graduated as Salutatorian of her 1961 class from Carrie Dotson High School in Grenada, MS and was awarded an academic scholarship to Jackson State University. She also attended the University of Maryland Extension College in Evereux, France. She began her career with AT&T/Bell System in 1967 and retired in 1996 as Manager, Operator Services. Beatrice completed numerous Managerial Courses with the AT&T/Bell System and received several Certificates and equivalent diplomas. After retirement she devoted her time to volunteer activities and involvement with her Church, Lebanon District, and community. She was a member of the National Hook-Up of Black Women and Telephone Pioneers of America.

Beatrice leaves to lovingly cherish her memory, her beloved husband, J.C., her children, Terrence LeMoyne, Indianapolis, IN, Tiffani Lynette, Chicago, IL, Carl Starks, Baltimore, MD, her grandchildren, Tamara Lynette and Terrence LeMoyne Tolbert II, Indianapolis, IN, Domonique Starks-Clark (Reggie), Merrillville, IN, Celeste (Benjamin) Pierre, Aurora, IL.; great grandchildren, Montel Jones II, David Ewing II, Merrillville, IN, and Carter, Aurora, IL; her siblings Vera Louise (Joe) Parks, Sammie (Mattie) Hooper, Saginaw, MI. Napoleon (Doris) Hooper Jr. Hazel Crest, IL. Mary Robinson (Indianapolis, In.), Minnie Hooper, Canton, MS and numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Cherishing her also are her BFL Vietta Keyes Bew, very dear friends, Barbara Williams and Linda Harvell of Joliet, IL, two beloved daughter-in-laws, Tammy Tolbert and Marcia Starks, special daughter, Diana Powitz and a most "special granddaughter, Laraia Mason Reed.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home and Monday, September 9, 2013 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 402 Singleton Pl., Joliet, IL. Service at 10:00 AM, Pastor David G. Latimore, officiating.

Interment immediately following service at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.
