Virginia came of age in the Dust Bowl of western Kansas where her father died when she was 13, jumped from there to earning her RN at the nursing school at Johns Hopkins Hospital and there married John Easter Sweeney.
After his navy and residency service, they settled in Topeka, Kansas and never left, bearing and raising five children. She was deeply committed to Jesus the Christ, a loving — and effective — mother, a caring nurse and mental health worker, and a front-line advocate for care during the drug epidemic of the 1960-70’s.
