Johanna Mohr was born November 7, 1860 in Germany to John and Carryline Mohr.

Family tradition is that Johanna's first husband was a dentist and that after he died, Johanna and their young daughter Elizabeth immigrated to the United States. They took the Ems from the departure port of Bremen, Germany and arrived at the port of New York on May 7, 1888. (Note: Ems was a Norddeutscher Lloyd steamship built in 1884 at Glasgow by John Elder and Co.)

August Hein and Johanna Mohr met after her immigration and subsequent arrival in Chicago. The couple married on September 29, 1888 in Chicago, IL. While in Chicago, August and Johanna had Rose, Robert, and Mabel. About 1895, August, Johanna and their family moved from Chicago to Wonewoc, Wisconsin.

The 1900 census shows the family living in Wonewoc, Juneau, Wisconsin. The family consisted of August, Johanna, son Frank (from August's first marriage), daughter Frances (from August's first marriage), daughter Lizzie, daughter Rose, son Robert, daughter Mabel, daughter Hattie, son Henry, and daughter Eva.

Ultimately, August, Johanna and family settled in Sauk County, WI.

Johanna died October 2, 1902 in LaValle, Sauk Co., WI from lockjaw, resulting from stepping on nail in the barn about 2 weeks earlier.
