RUSHVILLE -- Clifford E. Howard , 74, of 303 W. Logan St. died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at Snyder's-Vaughn Haven Nursing Home.

Born June 11, 1924, in Hersman to Elzie Perry and Susan Amanda Icenogle Howard, he married Mary E. Clayton on Dec. 2, 1958, in Beardstown. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Jimmie and Tommie, both of Rushville, and Roger of Canton; five daughters, Pat Cyphers of Lewistown, Donna Harrin of Abingdon, Cathy Howard of Canton, Nancy Browning of Houston and Sue Rosen of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Helen Howard of Monticello; 18 grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

He worked at International Harvester in Canton. He also was a farmer until he retired.

A World War II Army veteran, he served in the Illinois National Guard during the Korean War. He was a member of Schuyler American Legion Post 4. He was a former member of Rushville Moose Lodge 506. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Worthington Funeral Home. The Rev. Roger Simpson will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rushville City Cemetery, with military services accorded by his American Legion post.
