Rita E. Hornaday 74, of Rushville, passed away August 23, 2013 in Indianapolis.

She was born June 15, 1939 in Rushville, the daughter of the late Harry & Rosa (Niehoff) Herbert. She married Arthur M. Hornaday April 16, 1958 at St. Mary Catholic Church and spent the next 47 years enjoying their marriage and raising their three sons. He passed away September 10, 2005.

She enjoyed the VFW, American Legion & Eagles Ladies Auxiliary's. NASCAR, IU Basketball, Cincinnati Reds & pull tab tickets were a few of her joys. She was the author of the famous "Rita Burger" which the family and all the kids from the neighborhood enjoyed! She was retired from Franklin Central High School as a cook, and was a homemaker.

Left to cherish her memory include two sons Jeff (Jan) Hornaday, Bruce Hornaday; two brothers, Leo Herbert and Delbert Herbert all of Rushville; two sisters Frieda "Babe" Johnting of Rushville and Luella "Frog" Gates of California; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive.

She was preceded in death by her oldest son Randy and his wife Ann; brothers Ralph, Don, Robert; sister Birdie Short.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Monday August 26th at St. Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremy Gries officiating Burial will follow at Rushville's Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday August 25th from 2 to 6 PM at Todd Funeral Centre & Crematory.
