CASCADE, Iowa - Annabelle R. Cigrand, 81, of 608 Fourth Ave. SW, Cascade, died at 2:28 a.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, surrounded by her family at her home in Cascade, after living with cancer with courage and grace for 13 years.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 5, at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Cascade, with the Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cascade. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Reiff Funeral Home, Cascade, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.

She was born on Jan. 12, 1930, in Monticello, daughter of Charles and Margaret (O'Shea) Rogers. She received her education in the rural country schools. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Martin's High School in Cascade and a 1950 graduate of Mercy School of Nursing in Dubuque.

She married Jim Cigrand on May 30, 1953, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Cascade; he preceded her in death on May 14, 1972.

Annabelle pursued her nursing profession for

45 years at the John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, and later at Mercy Medical Center, St. Mary's Unit in Dyersville, until her retirement. After her retirement, she was an active volunteer in the church and community.

Her grandchildren were the joy and love of her life.

Surviving are five children, Peggy (Keith) Kohler, of Ames, Tom Cigrand, of Monticello, Paul (Carolyn) Cigrand, of Scotch Grove, Jude Cigrand, of Mechanicsville, and Matt (Tina) Cigrand, of Monticello;

14 grandchildren, Clare and James Kohler, Jackie (Eric) Dasso, Charlie, Maria, Clarissa, Odessa and Theresa Cigrand; Josh (Brooke), Woody, Willow and Emily Cigrand, Willy and Maisy Cigrand; two siblings, Sister Jane Rogers, BVM, of Dubuque, and Howard (Carolyn) Rogers, of Cascade; sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret Cigrand, of Cascade, and Dick (Karen) Cigrand, of Monticello.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings, Leo and Patricia; her parents-in-law, Nick and Lulu Cigrand; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Chub and Millie Otting, Bud and Florence Cigrand, Carl Cigrand, Francis and Mag Menster, Joe and LaVerne Grogan, Marian and Jean Ann Cigrand, Father Nick Cigrand, Ben and Lula Mae Klein and Rita Lievengood.

An Annabelle R. Cigrand Memorial Fund has been established.
