SPENCER D. FLEMING
Spencer D. Fleming was born at Edgewood, Clayton County, Iowa, February 7, 1875 and passed away at his home at 101 West Eighth Street, Spencer, Iowa, Thursday evening, October 7, having attained the age of 68 years and eight months. He was the son of James G. and Matilda Fleming.

While his death was not unexpected, it comes as a shock to his family and friends, for Mr. Fleming, although he had been bedridden since Sept. 13 following a severe heart attack, was thought to be recovering when death came, quickly and unexpectedly, at 10:50 p.m.

Spencer Fleming spent his early life in Clayton County where he was engaged in farming. July 25, 1901, he was married to Katie Mehan and to this union were born two children, Kathryn at home, and Charles who is a member of the United States Merchant Marine.

Having moved from Clayton County to Chickasaw County, he resided at Lawler, and was manager of the Farmers Cooperative Elevator there for a number of years.

In March, 1919, they moved to Spencer, where Mr. Fleming became manager of the Farmers Elavator Co., an occupation which he followed for 21 years, resigning about two years ago, due to poor health.

Besides his wife and two children, he leaves to mourn his departure, one brother, P. O. Fleming, Lamont, Iowa and three living sisters, Mrs. Ella Borr, Jamestown, North Dakota, Mrs. Lucy Dietrich, Boise, Idaho, and Mrs. Jesse Rulon, South Gate, Calif. His parents, two brothers and three sisters have preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist church, having joined in ealry life. He was a kind father, a loyal husband, a good citizen, and an honest business man throughout his life, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
