The peace of heaven rested on the waters of Eagle Mountain Lake, Friday morning, Aug. 30, 2013, as Gibbs Slaughter stepped in front of his Lord and Savior and heard the words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant." Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lake Country Church, 8777 Boat Club Road. Burial: immediately following in Dido Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Biggers Funeral Home, 6100 Azle Ave., Lake Worth. Pallbearers: Don Burgett, J.B. Currell Jr., Jerry Lee, Tom Micallef, David Nichols, Mike Reince, Ronnie Robertson and Scott Womack. Respected boatman and inventor of specialized fiberglass materials for the marine industry, Gibbs Mood Slaughter Jr. was born May 20, 1939, in Athens, Texas, married on Nov. 26, 1963, in Fort Worth and died Aug. 30, 2013, after a short illness. Mr. Slaughter graduated from Paschal High School, attended Texas A&M and graduated from Texas Wesleyan College. He served in the Air Force Reserve and, until recently, was owner/operator of Slaughter Marine Company and Gibco Flex-Mold, Inc. He was a member of Lake Country Church, Fort Worth Boat Club and the Eagle Mountain Classic Boat Club. Gibbs was preceded in death by his daughter, Stacy Ann; and his parents, Gibbs and Mary Slaughter. The family extends a special thank-you to Odyssey Hospice and BrightStar Home Health Care for their kind and caring professionalism during this difficult period. The bright light in Gibbs' blue eyes touched everyone who saw his face. He leaves a significant legacy and will be remembered for his faith, his strength and his unique kindness. Survivors: He is survived by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Joy Reeves Slaughter; a sister, Ann Slaughter Wallin of Houston; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a wealth of friends and business associates.
