Miss Frances Selia Boyette, 101, died Thursday, June 19, 2008. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at Joyner's Funeral Home. Burial followed in Marsh Swamp Church Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Wells officiated.
"Aunt Frances" or "Miss Frances" as she was known to her extended family and many friends was born on Sept. 14, 1906, to the late Robert Armetus Boyette and Rebecca A. Renfrow Boyette. She grew up in the Rock Ridge Community. She received an elementary teaching certificate from Atlantic Christian College and later graduated with a Bachelor's degree from ECTC (now known as East Carolina University). She retired from teaching in 1969 after 43 years as an elementary teacher in Johnston, Wilson, and Halifax counties. She was a member of the Alpha Kappa honorary teacher's sorority. After retirement she was employed as a housemother at Mount Olive College.
Miss Boyette was a member of Marsh Swamp O. F.W.B. Church since 1930 and until death was the oldest living member. Until her blindness in 2000, she was very active in her church Sunday School, Church Auxiliary, Rock Ridge Homemakers Club, Wilson County Retired School Personnel and the Wilson Crisis Center. She received a lifetime membership for dedicated service to the Marsh Swamp Church Auxiliary. Before her failing eyesight, Miss Boyette loved to cook for her family and friends, as well as read, play bridge, travel and visit her many beloved friends.

She was survived by a sister, Lois Boyette Flowers, of Leesburg, Fla.; a special niece and nephew, Anne Boyette Liles and husband, James "Pedro", and Sid Boyette and wife, Doris Lee, all of Rock Ridge; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews to cherish her memory as "Aunt Frances".
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Guy, Roy, Larry and Hugh and a sister, Beulah Hinnant.
