Don was born September 23, 1939 in Columbus, Nebraska to Elmer and Dorothy (Knopick) Meays. He graduated from Kramer High School in 1957. Don served in the United States Marines from January 1958 until January, 1962. He married Judy Keil on August 24, 1961 in Columbus, Nebraska. Don worked for Union Pacific Railroad for a few years. He then worked for the US Postal Service for 14 years. Don and Judy, his wife of 52 years owned and operated the East 30 Bar and Grill for 38 years until their retirement in May 2013. He was a member of St. Anthony Church, VFW, American Legion and the Eagles Club.
