Melvin Hugh Welker served a mission to Holland he traveled Holland with Abraham J. Gold. In April 1906 he nursed Elder Gold who had small pox, two weeks later Elder Gold died of the small pox. Elder Melvin Hugh Welker then contracted small pox and was very ill, He wrote home to his family and said that he was not feeling well, but supposed that he would feel better soon. He died of Small pox and was buried in Groningen, Holland. He was placed in a common grave, 4th class, but was later given a proper casket and grave and buried 1st class by Elder LeGrand Richards who was the Mission Presidents assistant. This information is in Elder Richards book ,"LeGrand Richards Beloved Apostle". published in 1982.
