He had a lease on a mill in nearby Wormingford, so he was possibly a miller. Richard had several brothers and a sister Ellen, all of whom were mentioned in his will. Richard Barker, "householder" was buried in Nayland on July 27, 1561. Richard's wife Alice was buried in Nayland on December 27, 1560. There is no record in Nayland of the marriage of Richard and Alice. Richard also mentions all six of his known children in his will.
