Curtis Tack Belcher, 84, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Home Pioneer Chapel with Pastor Stephen Bailey of Pavillard Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St.

Curtis was born Aug. 17, 1929, in Amarillo to Thomas and Beulah Belcher. His middle name became Tack because of a column in the Amarillo Globe-News entitled "Uncle Tack." Curtis married Mildred Lee Werner of Port Arthur on Aug. 12, 1950. He served his country in the Army from 1952 to 1954, with a year of that time spent in Germany.

He worked for Burlington Northern Railroad until he retired in 1991. He was secretary-treasurer for United Transportation Union. He also served as a deacon at several Baptist churches, including Ridgecrest, Journey Street, Cornerstone and Pavillard.

He was a man who loved his wife and family, but most of all he loved his savior, Jesus Christ.

Curtis was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mildred Lee Belcher.

Survivors include a brother, W.L. Belcher of the Dallas/Fort Worth area; two sons, Jim Belcher and wife Sharron and Robert Belcher and wife Cindy, all of Amarillo; a daughter, Brenda Belcher of Amarillo; four grandchildren and their spouses; seven great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice, in care of Don & Sybil Harrington Cancer Foundation, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106.
