Carol Irene Smith, 91, of Cathlamet, died Sept. 13, 2007. She was born May 24, 1916, in Bemidji, MN, to Ralph Marshall and Elsie May Walker Everest.

She married Krist Pedersen who died in 1967. On Dec. 31, 1971, she married Don Smith, who died in 2001.

She moved to Wahkiakum County in 1926 from Bemidji, and graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1934. She worked at a halfway house on Seattle for four years before moved to Cathlamet in 1971. She and her second husband, Don, were cooks at logging camps for the Alaskan Logger's Association around Juneau, AK, retiring in Jun 1981. She was a devoted wife, mom and grandma, a member of the Junior Matrons, Sons of Norway, and the Assembly of God Church and Women's Ministries there.

Surviving are three sons, Ralph Pedersen, Frank Pedersen and Marshall Pedersen; three step-sons, Lonnie Kubacki, Donald Smith Jr., and Kenneth Smith; a daughter, Kay Chamberlain; a brother, R. Marshall Everest; a sister, Marion Vik; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; many step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, George Everest in 1991, and a son, David Pedersen in 1989.
