The funeral for Gerald W. Atkinson, 62, Britton, will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church of Britton. The Rev. Jack Erickson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Britton Cemetery with Franzen Funeral Chapel in Britton in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel.

He died Wednesday, April 13, 1994, at his home, following a lengthy battle with emphysema.

Gerald W. Atkinson was born June 23, 1931, to David and Rose (Schwartz) Atkinson near Britton. As a youngster he grew up on the family farm and attended rural Waverly Township schools. He graduated from Britton High School in 1949, and began working at Thorp's Ranch near Britton.

He married Louise Kimball on Oct. 1, 1953, in Claremont. In 1952, he went into farming with his dad and continued until 1983, when emphysema forced his early retirement from the farm. At that time they moved into Britton and had lived there since that time.

He was a member of the Britton United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Britton; five daughters, Mrs. Brian (Cheryl) Loebs of Britton, Mrs. Steve (Lori) McCormick of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Hal (Joni) Bush of Rapid City, Mrs. Kirk (Janelle) Swanson of Claremont, and Mrs. Neal (Lana) Wietgrefe of Fairmont, Minn.; one brother, Harold Atkinson of Litchfield, Minn.; four sisters, Geraldine Zuehlke (his twin sister) and Mrs. Ronald (Helen) Roehr, both of Britton, Mrs. Dennis (Jane) Bush of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Mrs. George (Kathleen) Miles of Moses Lake, Wash.; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one son.

Casketbearers will be Doug Oelkers, LaVerne Swanson, Mark Zuehlke, Curtis Jones, Owen Jones and Chan Benda.

The organist will be Vergie Wallace, and the soloist will be Gerald Person. Ushers will be Emerald Peters and Dave Walberg.
