Paul Monroe "Monnie" Stone, 72, of the Frances community of Crittenden County, died Aug. 21, 2013, at his home. He was of Baptist faith.

Affectionately known as "Jug" by his family and friends, Stone retired from the state highway department in Crittenden County after 30-plus years. His parents also retired from the state. He was a NASCAR and University of Kentucky basketball fan and a loyal Chevy man. He was a loyal friend; a devoted son, brother and uncle to many; and an integral part of the Stone family. He will be greatly missed.

Stone is survived by his companion of more than 35 years, Joy Ferguson; three brothers, Jerry Dale and wife, Joyce Stone of Marion, Wesley Miles and wife, Kathy Stone of Fredonia and Max Evans and wife, Lisa Stone of Marion; four nieces, Angela Stone and husband, Brad Richards of Fancy Farm, Leslie Stone and husband, Mark Jackson of Dycusburg, Kayla Stone and husband, Jeremy Brasher of Eddyville and Jennifer Stone Martin of Louisiana; a nephew, James Evan Stone of Marion; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews, Ethan Jackson, Madison Martin, Tamara Martin, Jonathan Martin, Emily Martin, Emma Brasher and Noah Richards.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Lee and Dora Ruth Asbridge Stone.

Funeral services were Saturday in the chapel of Boyd Funeral Directors in Salem. Burial was in Frances Cemetery.
