Norma Brinkely, age 88 of Plano, Iowa died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at the Continental Care Center, Seymour, Iowa.

Norma was born April 1, 1925 in rural Plano, Iowa the daughter of Robert D. and Elma F. Atwell. She married Herbert Brinkely August 30, 1941 in Princeton, Missouri along with Carl and Arlene Thompson in a double ceremony.

Early in her career she worked at Sylvania in Centerville, Iowa. In 1957 Norma began her career with the United States Postal Service by working on-call occasionally with Centerville, Seymour and Plano Post officies. Subsequently, she became Postmaster in Promise city, Iowa for twenty years, retiring in 2001. Furthermore, during her married life Norma farmed with her husband Herbert, both in the hay fields as well as milking cows.

Norma liked to bake cookies, especially snicker doodles, and also enjoyed making fudge, along with many other baked goods. She also enjoyed growing Job's tears beads and collecting numerous articles with the cardinal motif. She was a member of the GEG Club and took her mother to Wednesday Club. She was a lifetime member of the Plano Christian Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn(Greg)Lowe of Numa, Iowa; a grandson, Matt(special friend Stacey Woodyard)Lowe of Seymour; and a granddaughter, Ashley(J.R.)Glenn of Grinnell, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert; Parents; and a sister, Donna Davison.

Funeral Services will be held 10 am Monday, August 26, 2013 at Lange Funeral Home & Crematory in Centerville with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Milton Albertson will sing and be accompanied byk Mary Parker on Piano. Friends may call all day Sunday with the family present from 6-8 pm at Lange's. Burial will be in the Crossroads Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Crossroads Cemetery.
