Alexander "Elic" Burris, 78 died at 2:50 a.m. Friday, March 4,[1966] at the Jane Todd Crawford Memorial Hospital. Born in Adair County in 1887, Mr. Burris was a member of Tarter's Chapel Methodist Church. He is survived by seven sons: Roy, Rue, Ernie and Rollin Burris, all of Greensburg; Tommy Burris, Mason City, Illinois; A. Z. Burris, Columbia and William Burris of Magnolia; three daughters: Mrs. R. D. Rowe, Daleville, Indiana; Mrs. Richard Smith, Hodgenville and Mrs. Woody Hay of Indiana. Mr. Burris is also survived by one brother, Willie Burris, Columbia; two sisters Mrs. Etta Beard, Columbia and Mrs. Judge Pyles, Campbellsville; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Ed Blankenship; 25 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at Tarter's Chapel Methodist Church with burial in Tarter's Chapel Cemetery. Rev. Taft Thrasher, Rev. E. T. Caffee and Rev. Kenneth Brown officiated. Active pallbearers wee Otha Shuffett, James Robert Shuffett, J. W. Buchanan, Leslie Buchanan, Clyde Thomas and E. B. Squires. Honorary pallbearers were Paul McFarland, Cova Kessler, Ruhel Judd, Dennis Shirley, Harold Squires and Ted Upchurch.
