NECROLOGICAL.
Rutherford L. Dowdell, age [37] years, died February 6, at 12 o'clock at his home, near McDade, of pneumonia. Interment in the New Cemetery [Greenwood] on arrival of Valley trains, about 11:20 a.m., February 7. Friends and acquaintances are respectfully invited to attend.

Rutherford married Felicitas Belle Fullilove in 1895 in Gonzales, Texas. After her death in 1900, Rutherford married Lucia Holmes Moore on November 26, 1902 in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Felicitas is buried in the Fullilove family cemetery in Caddo Parish.
In 1880, R. L. Dowdell was living in Denton, Texas with his mother, Mattie [Sarah Martha] Dowdell and siblings: Catherine, Minter, Susan, Michael, and Silas.
By the 1900 US Federal Census, Rutherford and Felicitas were living in Bossier Parish, Louisiana, with their daughter, Mary Elizabeth Dowdell.
Rutherford's older sister Sarah M. "Sally Mat" Dowdell [1851-1929] married James Hill Fullilove, Sr. [1848-1926]. They are also, along with Felicitas, buried at the Fullilove Cemetery at Four Forks Plantation in Caddo Parish.
