WOODSFIELD - Thurman J. Christman, 92, of Jerusalem, died Thursday [Aug. 18, 2005] at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Oct. 25, 1912, in Monroe County, son of the late Lewis Christman and Anna Claus Christman. Mr. Christman was a retired farmer and a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Woodsfield. He was a Monroe County commissioner for 12 years and served on the Monroe County Planning Committee, Farm Bureau Public Affairs Board, Monroe County Clinic Board, Monroe County Board of Health, Monroe County Fair Board, Malaga Township School Board, Beallsville School Board, Coop Dairy Barnesville, Belmont Electric, Buckeye Hills RC&D, St. Paul's Church of Christ Board and was a trustee at Middle Church Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Geldmacher Christman, in April 1998; a son, Willis Christman; a grandson, Todd Christman; two sisters; and three brothers.

He leaves a son, Dwight Christman of Cleveland; a daughter, Alice (Gene) Burga of Salesville; three brothers, Ed Christman of Bolivar, Robert Christman of Bucyrus and Wilbert Christman of Caledonia; 11 grandchildren, Ron, Scott, Dan, Tim, Tom and Russell Burga, Crystal Black, Alycia Cloud, Steve, Vickie and Diana Christman; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today (Friday) at Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Woodsfield, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Lehosky officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Woodsfield.
