Born on Sept. 23, 1920, in Colliers, Newfoundland, Agnes was the daughter of the late Matthew and Ellen (Fowler) Whelan.
Mom was an angel on earth who sacrificed so much of her own wants and needs for her children. She loved us more than anything in this world and we loved her right back. She was beautiful inside and out; a precious life, given in service to God; taken by God to live forever and ever in His presence.
Mom was a devoted member of Holy Redeemer Church.
Agnes leaves behind her children, Joe (Elizabeth), Lorraine, Helen (George), Marie, Linda (Murdock), Mike (Pat), Brian (Debbie), Mary (whom mom lived with), Brenda (Gary), Nancy (Wayne), Peggy (Arno) and John Glenn; stepchildren, Beatrice, Martha and Tom; daughter in-law, Lorraine; sister, Mary Dunn; brother, Frank Whelan; special grandchildren, Jennifer and Jeffery; 53 grandchildren; 90 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Agnes was predeceased by her husband, Michael Costigan, son, William, step twins, Samuel and Mary, brother, James, special granddaughter, Tracy Bartlett, daughter in-law, Heather and sons-in-law, James, Chalmers, Charlie and Phil.

(entrance on Church Street), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. We miss you now, our hearts are sore
As time goes by we miss you more.
Your loving smile your gentle face
No one can fill your vacant place ...
