SANDUSKY
James A. Scally, Sr., 88, of Sandusky, died Saturday afternoon, July 5, 2008, in Toledo St. Vincent's Medical Center, as a result of an automobile accident at his home.
He was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Sandusky. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving during WW II. James owned and operated the Terrace Carry Out and Terrace Trailer Court for 18 years, and Herman's Furniture for five years, retiring in 1979. He also formerly worked at Waldock Packing Company and as a carpenter for Feick Construction. Jim enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with family and friends.
Mr. Scally was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church; a life member of the former I.A.B. Club, where he served as past-president and held every office in the I.A.B., capturing the title of "Mr. I.A.B."; a member of Huron Eagle Aerie 2875; a life member of American Legion Post 83; a life and charter member of the AMVETS Post 17; and a life member of VFW Post 2529.
Mr. Scally is survived by three sons, James A. (Roberta) Scalia of Huron, Steven Scally of Sandusky and Gary (Cheryl) Scally of Colorado; 15 grandchildren, Jim, Angela, Teresa, Bruce, Tony, Tiffany, Brittney, Jeremy, Correy, Gabriel Zachary, Ambrelle, Steve, Jeff and Robert; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters, Josephine E. Apicella of Kettering, Ohio, and Roseann Kurilic; one brother, Thomas Scally of Sandusky; one daughter-in-law, Norma Scally of Huron; special companion, Betty Kruse; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Inez (Riccardi) Scally, who died Oct. 12, 1992; his son, Robert A. Scally; parents, Andrew and Mary (Ananstia) Scalia; two sisters, Mary Omlemacher and Catherine La Vine; and one brother, Mario Scalia.
Friends may call 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, where prayer services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, with the Rev. Jerry Ceranoski officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
