GREENSBURG RECORD HERALD OBITUARY – 05/10/1957
Caleb Rogers, 46, farmer of near Cane Valley, Adair County, died last Wednesday morning, May 1 [1957] at the Rosary Hospital, Campbellsville, of burns received in a freak explosion. The fire broke out on the farm of Marvin Downey, who lives about 10 miles from Greensburg on the Columbia Rd., when Rogers was filling a gas tank. Rogers was putting gasoline in a car when the fuel ignited, apparently from defective wiring in the car, and exploded, according to report. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Frances Rogers; 5 children, Buford, Arvin, Alfred, Donnie & Glenda Rogers; and his mother, Mrs. Ed Rogers, all of Adair County; 2 brothers, Otis Rogers, Milltown, and Jesse Rogers, Liberty; 4 sisters, Mrs. Bessie Parnell, Indianapolis, Mrs. Ellie W. Wilcox, Greensburg; Mrs. Pearl Edwards, Columbia, and Mrs. Mary Pickett, Adair County. Funeral services were held at Tarter's Chapel Methodist Church, Adair County. Rev. J.M. Humble officiated.
