90 year old Bro. Melvin D. Billings of Smithville passed away Friday morning at NHC healthcare of Smithville. He was a retired minister having pastored at several church's in DeKalb & surrounding counties. He was a member of the Mt. Pisgah Freewill Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 12th at 1:30pm at the chapel of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at DeKalb cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, 5-8pm & Sunday, 10am until service time at 1:30pm. He was preceded in death by his parents- Ray Vaughn & Clara Felts Billings, wife- Cecil Trapp Billings, grandson- Lynn Tallent, brother- Ernest Billings, 2 sisters- Ellen Hutchins & Odene Prater. Survivors include 1 Daughter- Joyce & Leonard Tallent of Smithville, 2 Grandsons- Marty Tallent of Smithville and Ronald & Andrea of McMinnville, 4 Great-Grandchildren- Brandon & Martelia Tallent of Smithville, Alex & Aaron Tallent of McMinnville, 1 Sister- Alama Billings of Smithville, 2 Brothers- R.V. & Brenda Billings and Claude Billings all of Sparta, Sister-In-Law- Frances Billings of McMinnville, Several nieces and nephews also survive.
