He later sold this patent . He said the engine he invented went on to be very successful. As a teenager he put a motor on his bicycle . He was quite a sight in the early 1900's motoring around the small town of Coldwater, Kansas. He was a talented automobile mechanic. He could work on almost any engine. When he moved to Liberal, Kansas he bought some barracks from the closed air base and built four homes in south Liberal. Woodworking filled his retirement years . Many family members were recipients of the shelves, sewing boxes and picture frames he made. He enjoyed fishing, and for a time raised rabbits. Clarence and Emma had five children
