William Brown was born September 9, 1804, in Ross County, Ohio. He was the son of George S. Brown and Margaret Stewart. Margaret was a daughter of William Stewart who fought in the American Revolution. On December 4, 1849, William Brown married Mary Edmiston Montgomery(5/20/1817-7/29/1887). She was the daughter of John Edmiston and Malinda Teter. Malinda Teter was the daughter of Samuel Teter II and Rebecca Ford and granddaughter of Captain Samuel Teter who was a hero in the American Revolution. William and Mary Brown had five children: Mary Alice Brown(8/31/1852-8/11/1832) who on 9/29/1874 married William Duncan Cutright(2/22/1848-3/27/1919), John Alexander Brown(8/20/1850-1/29/1913) who on 9/21/1871 married Cordelia Watson, Margaret Stuart Brown(8/8/1855-1/26-1908) who married Sam C. Woodland, Amanda Brown(3/10/1857-1926) who married T. G. Wakefield, and Samual Brown(B1852).
