Elmer N. Harrell, 89, a well known resident of Traverse City the past 40 years, died at his home, 533 West Eleventh street, Thursday evening following a five-week illness.

Mr. Harrell was born Sept. 17, 1867, at Holton, Ind., where he lived his early life. On June 17, 1900 he was united in marriage to Bertha Kelly of Noblesville, Ind. and in 1909 the couple came to the Grand Traverse region, settling on a farm in East Bay township. In 1917 they purchased their home in Traverse City, where they have since resided.

Mr. Harrellw as an active member of the First Christian church of this city and served on the church board for 38 years.

Left to mourn their loss beside his wife are one son and three daughters; Aaron of Muskegon, Mrs. Letha Brotherton and Mrs. Opel Weiselburg of Traverse City and Mrs. Frances Husted of Muskegon; 10 grandchildren; two great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at the Hibbard Chapel Saturday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. O. B. Little at Rapid City officiating. Burial will be made in the family lot in Oakwood cemetery (Traverse City Record Eagle, 30 August 1957, page 24, column 3).
