Mary E. Griffitt Opfer, 86, of Higginsville MO, formerly of Marshall MO, died Oct. 6, 2005, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg MO. Born Nov. 28, 1918, in Fairville MO, she was the daughter of the late George T. Dollard and Flora Cromley Dollard (later divorced).

On June 30, 1934, in Sedalia, she married George E. Griffitt who preceded her in death in 1964. On Dec. 7, 1968, she married Herman Opfer. She had lived in Saline County her entire life, living in Higginsville the past three years. She worked at International Shoe Company for 25 years and 18 years with the Foster Grandparent Program. She was a former member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church and was currently a member of Corder United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son James Edward Griffitt of Warsaw MO; daughter Mary Ellen Hitt of Higginsville; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; brother William T. Dollard of Stockton CA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Katherine L. Martin.
