A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster February 24, 1865, as a private with Co. E, 195th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company January 31, 1866.
He married Amanda Finefrock and fathered Edward M. (b. @1869) and Anna L. (b. 06/12/71 - married a Hornig). The 1900, 1910, and 1920 censuses all show him residing with his wife in Strasburg Township, Lancaster County. Why he died in Massachusetts is as yet unknown.
