Ethel Botkin, 80, of 506 East 9th, died at 6:19 a.m. Saturday [26 November 1955] in Grace Hospital [in Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas]. A retired schoolteacher, she was a member of the Hutchinson school system's staff for 47 years.

Miss Botkin was born on Feb. 1, 1875, in Pleasanton, Kansas. She moved, with her parents, to Hutchinson in 1892. She was a teacher, for 47 years, in Hutchinson, and was the principal of Northside School during 38 years of that time. A member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1894, she was a regular Sunday-School teacher there for more than 30 years.

Since her retirement from the school-teaching profession, she has held offices in the church and social organizations of her community. She was a member of the D Chapter, of the PEO. She earned her 50-year membership pin in that organization last May. She was a lifetime member of the Hutchinson Teachers' Association.

Surviving her are a sister, Mrs. Nell B. Ghormley [wife of John Raymond Ghormley], of 506 East 9th, [in Hutchinson, Kansas,] and a brother, Clyde J. Botkin, of Sumner, Washington, and two nephews.

Her funeral will be on Monday [28 November 1955]], at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Harold M. Mallett officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery [in Hutchinson, Kansas].
