"James P. Tracy, 77, of Salix, Iowa, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa, after being stricken unexpectedly at his residence on March 5, 2002.

Jim was born January 25, 1925 in Salix, the son of Paul and Jennie (Kinnaman) Tracy. He was a long-time resident of Salix. He sailed with the U.S.C.G. Merchant Marines during World War II as an oiler. He served on a convoy to Murmansk, Russia.

He worked at Needham's Packing Company until it closed, then for the Woodbury County Conservation and as a Wells Fargo guard at Unit 4 with Iowa Public Service. He retired in 1996.

On May 27, 1947, he married Marcella Spartz at The Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church in Sioux City. She passed away February 7, 2002.

Survivors include four daughters; six grandchildren; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Kenneth; and six brothers and sisters.

A Prayer Service was held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salix at 7:00 Sunday, March 10, 2002. The Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday. March 11, 2002, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salix, Iowa, with Father Donald J. Slaver, Celebrant.

Interment was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Salix, Iowa, with Military Service by George Nelson American Legion Post #662, Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, with arrangements by Wood Funeral Home, Sloan, Iowa." Sloan Starlet, March 20, 2002
