Funeral services for Mrs. Sallie Cook Voris, 81, widow of J. W. Voris, Burgin farmer, were held Monday at Burgin with burial in Spring Hill cemetery. Mrs. Voris died at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 1934, at her home after a two-weeks illness of pneumonia.
Services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. at the Burgin Baptist church, in whose organization in 1891 Mrs. Voris played a part. Active in church duties, Mrs. Voris was one of the three surviving charter members. Others are her son, Rev. Atwood L. Voris, and Mrs. Fox Peach, both Burgin. Rev. J. O. Carter, the pastor, officiated.
Mrs. Voris was the daughter of Rev. Strother Cook and Lucy Mitchell Cook and a native of Mercer county. Born near Burgin, she lived in the city or near there until her death. She was one of 12 children and the mother of a like number.
Besides Rev. Voris, she is survived by five other sons, W. C. and Stanley Voris, Burgin; Ed Voris, Washington, D. C.; Hugh Voris, San Francisco; Harry Voris, Stone, Ky.; three daughters, Mrs. R. T. Wilds, Burgin; Mrs. Ed Curpen, Plymouth, O., and Mrs. Robert Robinson, Stone; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Stone, Norwood, O.; Mrs. Emma Rose, Piqua, O., and Mrs. Elizabeth Litrell, Burgin, and one brother, James Cook, Vicksburg, Miss. Several grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
