BARCLAY--Keneth J. Barclay, aged 92, passed away on March 30, 2002, at Pilgram Manor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adelaide. He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Al Steger; his grandson, Neil (Sarah) Steger; and brother-in-law, John Van Slooten, all of Grand Rapids. Ken was a graduate of Creston High School and the United States Naval Academy. As a naval reserve officer on active duty, he was present at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 while in command of the U.S.S. Sacramento. He also commanded a patrol craft and a distroyer-escort in the Pacific until the end of World War ll. He was a commanding officer of the Grand Rapids Naval Reserve Battalion from 1948-1950, and was promoted to Captain shortly before retiring from the Naval Reserve. He spent his business career at American Seating Company in product management positions from 1946-1971. He was an active of the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association and a member of the local Army-Navy Club. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 750 Gladstone SE, with visitation one hour prior to the funeral at church. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery.
