John fought in the Revolutionary War. "From National Archives in Washington: Enlistment date is not known. His name first appeared in April 1777. He was sick and sent to Philadelphia. His name last appears on a muster roll for April 1778 dated at Valley Forge May 2, 1778. He was a private in Capt. John Holcombe's Co. and then in Capt. Thos Ridley's Co., in 4th Va. Regt.
