John Holloway was the son of William Holloway and (Mary?) Carter Holloway, born in England 25 May 1761. He immigrated to Culpepper, VA, North America, and settled there with his father and siblings George, and Clarissa Jane-"Clara" Holloway who married Samuel Hill.

John fought in the Revolutionary War. "From National Archives in Washington: Enlistment date is not known. His name first appeared in April 1777. He was sick and sent to Philadelphia. His name last appears on a muster roll for April 1778 dated at Valley Forge May 2, 1778. He was a private in Capt. John Holcombe's Co. and then in Capt. Thos Ridley's Co., in 4th Va. Regt. John married (1) Lucy Schuyler (pronounced "Schooler") and had one daughter Elizabeth Holloway, born in either Ohio or Virginia. (One source states she was probably born in Caroline County, Virginia). John's wife Lucy died. His daughter Elizabeth first married Absolom Edgington on 25 July 1816 in Adams County, Ohio, They had six children: George Edgington; John Levi Edgington; Spencer Edgington; William A. Edgington; Morris Edgington; and Sarah Edgington. Her husband died in 1853. Elizabeth second married her cousin Henry Hill (son of Clarissa Holloway) on 14 Sept 1856 in Clark Co., KY. There were no known children. She died in 1875 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery in Monroe Co., MO.

In 1792, John married a second time to Elizabeth "Bettie" Hudson in Culpepper Co., VA, the daughter of Joshua Hudson. She died 28 June 1828 in Clark Co., KY.

4). John Washington Holloway, born 22 or 28 February 1801 in probably Clark Co., KY (one source says VA), died Aft. 1880 in Stamping Ground, Scott Co., KY. John married his cousin Margaret "Peggy" Holloway 24 Dec 1820 in Clark Co., KY;
5).George Washington Holloway, born 28 January 1804 in Clark Co., KY; died 01 September 1861 in Hamilton Township, Harrison Co., MO. buried in Brown Cemetery. He married Elvira Henton 14 Mar 1835 in Henry Co., KY.;
7). Mary Lucretia D. Holloway, born 18 March 1806, died 06 November 1877 MO. Lucretia married William Dollard 12 Sept 1824 in Clark Co., KY.;

and "My second child" Nancy (Holloway) married Azariah/Absolom Edgington; she was born 26 May 1797 (one source says born Abt 1793 )in Ohio, died 14 Jan 1875.

John Holloway, Sr. had a will in which he named children: 3 youngest are Lucretia, George, and Jesse Holloway; "My second child is Nancy Edgington"--Nancy Holloway married A. Edgington; 3 eldest sons are Spender (Spencer), Thomas, and John, to be Executors of his estate. Dated & Witnessed 12 April 1823. (Will BK 5, page 273). Note--he does not specifically name Elizabeth nor Frances.
