Everett "Wayne" Fields, age 85, of Grandview, WA passed away at Yakima Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born February 13, 1925 to James Arthur and Sarah Katie (Allred) Fields in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Wayne received his early education from Greenland Elementary near Fayetteville, Arkansas. Wayne continued his education becoming fluent in Spanish in his later years. On August 28, 1943 he married Alfreda Owens in Springdale, Arkansas.

Wayne worked for local processing plants and also Upland Wineries from 1947 until 1950. In 1960 Wayne began his employment at Sunnyside Valley Irrigation District where he worked as a ditch rider until his retirement in 1985. Wayne was a man of many talents and interest. He loved music, carving, painting, hunting upland game, photography, gardening, woodcarving, stagecoaches and trains. He also spent time as a reading tutor at the ESL program and as a county courthouse historian. All of his interests and talents won him numerous awards at local fairs. He was a longtime member of the Grandview Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alfreda Fields of Grandview, WA, one daughter Pat Bailey and husband, Jim of Spokane, WA, grandson, Brandon Bailey of Seattle, WA, granddaughter, Holly Taylor and husband, Rodney of Spokane, WA, great grandchildren, Milan Bailey, Leena Bailey, Bailey Taylor and Cooper Taylor. He is also survived by one brother, Homer "Gene" Fields of Cashmere, WA and one sister, Wanda Fulfer and husband, Jay of Springdale, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Willis Fields, James Fields and Dale Fields, two sisters, Irene Russell and Sylvia Neu, two sister-in-laws, Gertrude Fields and Margie Fields.

Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, November 29, 2010 from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside, WA. Private family graveside services will be held at the Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, WA. Those wishing to honor his memory may contribute to the Bethany Presbyterian Church
