Longtime Omaha resident Joseph Polonski, age 87, passed away on Thursday, July 25. He died peacefully in his sleep. Mr. Polonski is survived by his wife and sole mate Bluma Polonski, daughter and son in law Sonia and John Breslow of Scottsdale, Arizona, son and daughter in law Morris and Claire Polonski of Los Angeles, California, Daughter and son in law Rose and Steve Viny of Cleveland, Ohio, son Lynn Polonski of Tucson, Az., 11 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Mr. Polonski, originally of Silvaki, Poland was a survivor of the Holocaust. He is one of only 2 known individuals to escape from Treblinka, known as the most rigorous death camp created under the Nazi regime. After his escape, he served as an officer in the resistance, fighting Nazi's until the liberation. Mr. Polonski was trained in electronics by ORT in Germany and came to the United States in 1949 to found Aksar-ben Television Service. He enjoyed playing golf, cards, and exercising at the Omaha Jewish Community Center. He is best known by his friends for his kindness, compassion, and honesty.
