Ida Susan Garman, daughter of Peter and Susan Garman, was born January 27, 1861, in Stevenson County, Ill., and died September 20, 1950, at St. Joseph hospital in Concordia, at the age of 89 years, 7 month, and 20 days.
She lived her first 18 years in Stevenson county, moving to Republic county, Kansas, after her marriage to Charles Shellhase in January, 1879. To this union three sons were born. With the exception of two years spent in Louisiana, Mrs. Shellhase lived 71 years in Republic.
Mrs. Shellhase was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her home and was fond of entertaining her friends there.
She was a life long Christian, professing her faith in Christ when a young girl, and will long be remembered as a true Christian and a true friend.
Mrs. Shellhase was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1941. she is survived by three sons, Floyd of Superior, Howard and Ivan of Republic, one sister, Mrs. Mattie Salyard of Portland, Ore., five grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were Friday, September 22, at the Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart chapel. Interment was in Rosemound cemetery near Republic, with the Rev. Myrle Horner conducting the services.
