TEXAS CITY - Jane Adeline Adkins Holthusen, "Ol Mom", 77, of Texas City, passed away peacefully at home with her family on June 23, 2003. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, June 26, 2003, in the chapel of Emken-Linton Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Bell of Baypoint Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas.

Jane was born December 23, 1925, in Marshall County, Iowa. She was the eighth of ten children born to James Thomas and Clara Jane Rails Adkins. She was raised on a farm during the depression and was no stranger to hard work. Although times were difficult, the family remained close and were always quick to laugh or tell a joke. She loved sports and played on the girl's basketball team for Ferguson High School. After graduating from high school in 1944, she went to work running a drill press for Marshall Manufacturing.

She moved to Marshalltown and continued working until she
married Theodore John Frederick Holthusen on December 23, 1947.

Looking for greener pastures, they moved to Texas City, Texas, in December 1947..Ted went to work.for, Union Carbide Corp. They settled in as transplanted Texans arid began to raise their family. Although Jane made her home in Texas for over 55 years, she loved Iowa arid always looked forward to and enjoyed going "up home" to visit. ' When her-first grand-child was born, she became known as "Ol Mom." Soon, not only did her family, but also friends, began calling her Ol' Mom. Always kind and soft-spoken, OF Mom truly loved her children and grandchildren and was always willing to read "The Old Woman That Lived In A Shoe" one more time or play one more game of Old Maid. Over the years, she enjoyed bowling in the Carbide Wives' League, playing bunco with her friends and taking care of her cats, "Kat Kat" and
"Jett."

After Ted retired, they enjoyed woodworking and would often participate in local craft shows. When we remember her, it will be for her kind, caring, loving manner, her gentle nature and the best potato salad in the world. Ol' Mom is survived by her husband, Ted Holthusen; daughter and son-in-law, Bobbie and Don Hudnall; son and daughter-in-law, Kim and Melissa Holthusen; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and David Moss; grandsons: Jake Hudnall and
