The funeral of Mrs. Mary E. DeForest was held Monday. She has been a resident of the vicinity of West Liberty for the past forty years
. Her death occurred last Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, after suffering for the past two months with paralysis.
Suggested edit: About her parents, Nicholas & Catherine Kelch, they may have been in Union Co., NJ for 40 yrs. after arriving from Germany, as their memorials say, but by 1850 they had moved to farm in Morris Co., NJ where Mary's husband George lived. They were also in the 1855 Morris Co., NJ state census. George was a brother of my great grandfather Augustus De Forest. My great grandparents were from Morris Co., NJ where they married in 1868 after the Civil War, then moved to Cedar Co., IA by the 1870 census. Gus & Tillie were listed in that census not far from Nicholas & Catherine Kelch. I think George & Mary had already moved to Cedar Co., IA, which is probably why Gus & Tillie moved there. George & Mary named their first two children Augustus and Matilda. I know George & Gus were still in touch with each other during George's second marriage. You can see Mary listed in the 1850 Morris Co., NJ census for her parents.
