Frank Hanson was born in Illinois about 1834. His parents were both born in Virginia. Frank is buried in a family 'cemetery' south of Sweet Hollow, Clearlake, California, with his 'white wife' and his 'adopted daughter Ellen', and possibly her infant daughter. Frank was a farmer in Long Valley, Lake County, California in 1880.

*The 1870 census names a Lucy 'Squaw' (30) living with Frank Hanson (37). She was Native American. It is not known what the relationship was between Frank and Lucy...only that she kept house. Frank's daughter Ellen is shown as Ellen 'Squaw'. Ellen was 4 at the time. They were living with 2 other children: Francis and Henry 'Squaw'.
