She graduated from Sam Houston State University with her bachelor's degree and a master's from North Texas University. She was a teacher for a number of years. In the mid-1970's she changed occupations and was a successful real estate broker in Brazoria County.
During her high school years, she was a very successful athlete, excelling in the woman's high jump and won many metals. She also loved to play the drums and was a wonderful friend.
