Freddie was born in Rosenberg, Texas. She was the only surviving child of this couple.

She grew up in Freeport, Texas and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1955. She graduated from Sam Houston State University with her bachelor's degree and a master's from North Texas University. She was a teacher for a number of years. In the mid-1970's she changed occupations and was a successful real estate broker in Brazoria County.

During her high school years, she was a very successful athlete, excelling in the woman's high jump and won many metals. She also loved to play the drums and was a wonderful friend.
