Virginia May Abels (Mitchell) (Miller) Keling, age 53 of 6415 S. Adams, Bartonville, Illinois, died September 13, 1973 in Peoria, Illinois at the Methodist Hospital at 10:15 am yesterday, where she had been a patient since July 24. She died of carcinoma of the cervix which was diagnosed one year prior to her death.
She was born January 10, 1920 in Savannah, Andrew County, Missouri, and she was the daughter of Thomas George Abels and Rada Mae Lesson Abels. She had five siblings: Ida naomi Abels (1921-2001), Florida Lee Abels (1922-2006), Mary E. Abels (1924-2010), Rachel Elizabeth Abels (1927-1999), and William T. Abels (1930-?1999).
She first married Oakley Elmer (Stubb) Mitchell on June 17, 1936. To this union were four children: Geneva May Mitchell Overby (1937-2006), Oakley Thomas Mitchell, Wayne Mitchell and James Irwin Mitchell (1943-1944). She then married Joseph Theodore Miller, Jr. on February 6, 1946 and had 2 children: Janice Lea Miller and Joyce Miller (Brown).
She then married Jess Keling In St. Joseph, Missouri on November 19, 1966. She was a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother.
Services for Virgina will be at 10:30 A. m. Saturday at Stone Mortuary in Bartonville.
The Rev. George Parks of El Vista Baptist Church will officiate, and burial will be in St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery.
Friends may call at the mortuary 3 to 9 PM tomorrow.
Surviving are her husband; her mother, of St. Joseph, Missouri; two sons, Wayne Mitchell and Oakley Mitchell, both of El Paso; two daughters, Mrs. Janice Anderson of Gridley and Mrs. Geneva Overby of Charleston, South Carolina.
Also, one brother William Abels of St. Joseph, Missouri; four sisters, Miss Mary Abels of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mrs. Rachel Rice of Cosby, Missouri, Mrs. Naomi Barth of Rea, Missouri, and Mrs. Florida Holstrom of Tacoma, Washington; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A son, James Mitchell preceded her in death.
