Jessie Freemont Booton was born October 26, 1868 in Galesburg, Knox county, Illinois, to Theodore Arlington Booton and Mary Ellen [nee: Haynes] Booton. Jessie was the oldest of the eleven children of Theodore and Mary Ellen.

Jessie became a teacher and later married George Franklin McKinney in Wellington, Sumner county, Kansas on September 10, 1902. Rev. E. F. Sitterly performed the marriage.

George and Jessie lived in Ryan Township, Sumner county, Kansas where George farmed and Jessie kept house and raised their two children, George Leon and Frances Eleanor who were born at home near Crisfield, Harper county, Kansas in January, 1904 and July, 1905 respectively. Neither Crisfield nor the house they lived in exist any longer.

For reasons not yet known with certainty, George and Jessie sold their farm land to George's brother-in-law, Ed T. Stewart, auctioned his farm inventory on August 31, 1909 and left Kansas for Balmorhea, Reeves county, Texas shortly afterward. They lived in Balmorhea until about 1923 when they decided to leave heading to California to begin farming again. This plan was stopped short when during their travels, they stopped in for an overnight stay with friends from Balmorhea who had moved earlier to Mesilla Park, Doña Ana county, New Mexico. As the story has been shared among family members, they came to stay one night and spent the remainder of their lives in Doña Ana county.

George and Jessie opened a small grocery store in Mesilla, Doña Ana county, New Mexico at the southwest corner of Highway 28 and Union Street, also known locally as "Four Points." They eventually closed the store and moved north of Las Cruces to live out their lives with their son and daughter-in-law, George Leon and Neva Louise [nee: Perkins] McKinney. George Franklin passed in 1943 and Jessie Fremont passed in 1951. They are both buried in Masonic Cemetery on Compress Road in Las Cruces, Doña Ana county, New Mexico.

Jessie's obituary follows:
