BARNWELL, S.C. - Lawrence Jefferson Jack Cook, 91, of Barnwell passed away at his home on Saturday, July 13, 2013. The family will receive friends from six to eight pm Tuesday, July 16th at Folk Funeral Home in Williston. Funeral services will be held three pm Wednesday, July 17, 2013 in the Folk Funeral Home Chapel, with the Reverends Billy Mew and Mark Wadford officiating. Burial will be at the Barnwell County Memorial Cemetery by the airport in Barnwell. Jack was born August 28, 1921 in Snelling at the old Cook home place to the late Heirs Martin Cook and Maggie Parker Cook. He farmed most of his life. When the Bomb plant came to Barnwell County he worked in security and construction at the site. He also worked in the logging industry and helped build and repair homes on Edisto Island with a local contractor. After retiring as a fixer for Burlington Industries, he took on a second career helping his wife in their multiple flower shops, creating beautiful heirloom woodwork and woven oak baskets. Jack always had horses and for many years broke and trained quarter horses. He may be best remembered for raising rabbits for medical research for more than 10 years. He loved his family very much especially his long awaited great-grandson Christian Sonny Boy Bell. Jack leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Hazel Grubbs Cook; a daughter, Susan (Buddy) Delk; two granddaughters, Felicia and Katelyn Delk (Brent Bell); a great-grandson, Christian Santino Bell; special son, Johnny (Lucille) Williams; special brother, Paul (Sheryl) Kinard as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in death by his parents; sisters, Lucy Hartzog, Grace Anderson and Ruth Cook; brothers, James Jimmy Cook and George Cook. Special thanks is given to the many caring staff members of Regency Hospice of Orangeburg, particularly Jack's niece and nurse B.J. Hiott and nurse Carrie Cason.
