RUBY STOOPS OLIASON 1916-2014

Ruby was the daughter of Martin E. Stoops (b 1880 Summerville, Texas, MO) and Virginia Martin (b 1883 MO). She was born 25 April 1916 on Star Island, Eagle Idaho as Cecelia "Ruby" Stoops.

She was one of five children: her sister Clarice (Schmidt) born in 1905; brother Craig in 1906; Carl in 1908 (in Missouri); and Paul born 1912 in Idaho. Her father and mother moved from Missouri to Idaho to farm in the Star area in 1911 where her maternal grandparents owned the Star Mercantile.

Ruby graduated from Eagle High School in 1934 and Links Business School in 1936. She worked at Idaho Power until her marriage.

Melvin O. Oliason, accountant for the Public Utilities, and Ruby were married in Clark Washington on Aug. 17, 1939. Melvin, a widower, and had two children, Donald M. Oliason and Beverly O. Oliason. She adopted, helped raise and educate Donald.

Ruby was a member of several organizations: the Chapter BN- PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization), Colonial Dames XVII Century, Idaho Huguenots, So Journers, Da Vinci Art Guild and Boise Art Museum, and a former member of the Southwestern China Painters and the Tuesday Painters.

She did oil painting until her vision limited her activities. She won several ribbons in the 1950's for Still Life at the Boise Art Gallery then turned to china painting. Friends and relatives treasured her floral paintings.

She joined the Daughters of the American Revolution, Oct 1952, on her Patriot ancestor, John Paulding of NY. (This ancestor was responsible for the capture of Major Andre, who was hung as co-conspirator with Benedict Arnold.) She researched her family history and had listings of family going back to 600 England (to the kings that joined England and Ireland).

She served as Pioneer Chapter DAR Secretary and on numerous committees over her years as a member. Ruby was also a member of the Colonial Dames along with her niece Carol Stoops (who passed away in 2013).

Donald Oliason, and nephew, Richard Stoops of Boise, survive her. Ruby was preceded in death by her niece, Carol Stoops, daughter of her brother Carl and his wife "Billie" (Olivia Phelan) Stoops.

Ruby loved to play bridge and was still an active player before her death. She loved her friends and was in contact with two of her first grade friends. In her later years, her friends and neighbors assisted Ruby so that she could remain in her home until her death Feb 13, 2014. (Thank you to these friends.)

A graveside service was held as requested, including remarks on I Corinthians 13. Ruby is buried next to Melvin in Cloverdale Cemetery. Ruby requested memorials to be donated to her church, the Wright Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Boise.
