Funeral services for Hiram Sharp, 72, of Levelland, will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 14, 2009, at First Baptist Church, Levelland, with Dr. Steve Vernon, Assoc. Exec. Director, Baptist General Convention of Texas, Dallas, and Dr. Brian Hill, Minister of Education, First Baptist Church, Levelland, are officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m., Saturday in Sunset Memorial Park, Odessa. Services are under the direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland. He died Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009, at his home. He was under the care of Interim Hospice.

Born on Feb. 29, 1936 in Eldorado, Texas, to Hiram Edwin Sharp, Jr. and Lillian Pauline Herron Sharp, he graduated from high school in McCamey. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Western University in El Paso, and his Masters of Education from Sul Ross University in Alpine. Hiram worked for the Midland Police Department before he began his teaching and coaching career. He taught and coached at Midland Carver, St. Jacinto Jr. High, and Seminole. He served as Superintendent of Schools at New Home and Bledsoe. He was a member and active deacon of First Baptist Church, Levelland where he participated in the Sanctuary Choir, the Sonshine Choir, and the Men's Ensemble. He was a USA Track and Field official and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Annette Holt Sharp, of Levelland; his children, Ed and Tina Sharp of Whitharral, and Vanessa and Jimmy Ericson of Whiteface; his grandchildren, Mitchell Sharp, Mason and Jeanie Sharp, Lindsay Ericson, and Jarred and Torie Ericson; a great-granddaughter, Kennedi Ericson; his sister, Helen Norman and her husband, Taylor, of San Angelo; a sister in law, Betty Sharp, of Odessa; and several nieces and nephews.
